The Parenting Stories are my experiences ..  my  journey, my excitement with my two darling daughters ..

How motherhood transformed me!

I am finally breaking my blogging sabbatical with this post of the blog train -2 hosted by Pooja Kawatra of Mums & Babies.

Thanks Pradnya for the warm intro ..

Well moving onto “How Motherhood Transformed Me” ..

I have to move back to 24 years back …

Oh yes! .. I was 2 months short 5 years old then .. 27.10.1993 – My little brother was born

Playing with him, taking care of him .. Feeling J! of him .. Learning from him .. Bettering myself.. (Sometimes for setting a better example .. Sometimes just to outdo him )  and of course fighting with him 🙂 has been my life motto!

I remember trying to secure real good marks in 10th only to set a good target for him to reach 😀

Oh yes! I was that crazy in being involved in raising him!

My brother with the then Prime Minister

Then almost 8 years ago .. I lost him .. to an accident ..

I was devastated .. I felt I could never love anybody ever .. again..

No not even falling for the husbandman can count ..

Then .. On our first anniversary I could feel it .. I could feel a life .. Within me .. Other than mine ..

We met the gynaec .. She did not confirm my pregnancy .. But i knew it! A week later I decided to test myself .. 2 PINK LINES!

I was right all the way ..

We went for the scan .. And then .. I saw the foetus.. And its heart beating ..

I then understood what it meant to feel 2 hearts beating in the same rythm . . World halting .. And love at first sight!

My ability to love unconditionally finally rekindled !

It was pure magic! I did all that was told is good for the baby .. Listening, reading to Ramayana .. Crafting, cut off social media .. Writing, blogging .. Drawing .. Settling .. What not! Oh yes .. Cooking! I was way too nauseated all the time to even eat .. Forget cook .. 😀

Frankly everything I did for the baby .. Within me .. I was nourishing my soul along with the baby’s 🙂

I was never this connected to my body than this! So much that when yet again .. The gynaec .. The nurses .. Told me otherwise .. Following my body let me deliver my child on my own! Only when Aadya’s head was out the world knew .. I was really in active labour and it was an emergency! Well this birth story in detail is for another post surely!

All that I worked while Aadya was in the womb paid off .. So well that .. She was a baby .. A very very easy one to handle! So easy that .. I decided I wanted more than two children whatsover! 😉 (i was never a part of any of the parenting groups that i am part of now .. Nor i know the bliss of babywearing then but still .. she was easy .. )

Aadya and me with the AP chief minister CBN <3

Coming over to my second pregnancy .. I was more excited of Aadya having a sibling 🙂 i just know that magic bond siblings share !

But I was in for a very very pleasant surprise .. The due date coincided with my brothers birthday!

But my happiness was changed to worry as the corporate hospitals .. Gave me an unnecessary cervical cerclage.. And advised bedrest .. When i decided to move back to Vizag ! I underwent severe depression.. Fear of losing my brother yet again .. Not able to feel the fresh air for a good five months 🙁 ( well with Aadya i was walking 5 km uphill everyday until the last before day of my delivery) I was never restricted as such .. But I overcame all that because I believed we send our vibes to the baby .. By trusting God completely! By signing up to a library and hobbies yet again .. Frankly all the crafts listed under The Parentales were made during this bedrest ..

And finally even after the stitch was removed and I resumed my over active lifestyle.. I went to labour on my due date 🙂 my baby .. My brother and I with Lord Shiva’s blessings .. She was born on 27.10.2016! We named her Siva Manasi after Sivaditya ..

Siva Manasi turned one last month and Sree Aadya turned akka for one year! I love how they love each other so much .. Oh more than me too .. Strangely I dont feel jealous! I am happy that I am able to re-experience the sibling bond this closely sitting back ..

Motherhood encourages me to take notice of myself .. My own dreams. .. My own health .. My own thoughts .. Oh yes I stumble upon .. I fall down .. But I make sure I get up! Because i have 4 little eyes watching me .. Looking up to me ..

I realised that failing is not that bad .. But refusing to try again is .. Finally what gets the children to work is .. Being an example you want them to be 🙂

Mothering my children made me a stronger person .. Ever Ready to fight the world .. Fight my own vices if necessary:) And the bestest part is I am never alone … My children with their unconditional love will stand by me .. Even if it is .. Against the world!

🙂 on this positive note, I sign off with loads of love to all of you who have come this far of my post ❤️

I introduce the next amazing mommy Rupali Saxena who blogs here. A mother, a wife, a daughter and a friend always 🙂 She is a traveller, her own story maker, inspiring and learning from her experiences. A CFA by qualification, writer by choice and trainer (finance ) by profession.

No-cook Edible Play Dough

I am constantly on the run for simple .. DIY activities for lil A 🙂 Though there were many versions of DIY dough on the internet .. I found this extremely simple and effective 😀

This is completely edible as well ..

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup flour (any flour will do) I used wheat
  2. 1/4 cup salt
  3. 1/2 cup warm water
  4. A few drops of food colouring

Procedure:

  1. Mix the flour and the salt
  2. The food colouring is to be mixed with the warm water
  3. Add the water to the flour stirring all the way.
  4. Knead the dough so that the flour is absorbed. If at all the dough seems sticky, you would just need to add more flour.

And this was the output for us 😀

The next day when I gave to Aadya .. she was impressed .. Check out what all we did …

Shapes, chapati and then our favorite balls 😛

So when you are giving the dough be sure to give some toys and shape cutters .. I gave her a popsicle stick to cut since we dint have any shape cutters at home right now .. 🙂

Will surely post more ideas and our dough tales in more posts to come ..

Oh and do store it in an airtight container for it to last longer than a month 🙂

An ex-skater’s take on skating for children today

I was asked to post about skating for kids on one of my favorite parenting groups and I did an elaborate post on it. So decided to share the same here and would be editing more in a while 🙂
I have been a national skater .. Roller hockey player(more precisely)
I was introduced to skating when I was 4/5, was given a break and reintroduced at 10 years .. Again 🙂
So I know a lot of my friends were into skating since they were 3 ..

My dad was keen about sports .. So we were always playing/exploring/learning some sport or the other ..
We took skating as a sport – it was an integral part of our life ..
Activity is different from a sport ..

We were trained properly for skating .. If we had to do 1hr of skating .. It was always 1 hr or even more preparing for it, warm up, exercises, flexibility, crunches and so on ..

Sometimes skating was just skipped 🙂
What I wanted to emphasise is .. Our bodies were prepared for skating .. (Since i have been hearing in the groups that legs being not strong enough and all — i really can’t comment on this because we had dedicated coaches and they took care that we were strong and developed us )
Also there are techniques as to how we should be skating ..

1.  you would need jonex skates with the brake removed .. to start with and would move on to quads, inline ..

You get the jonex skates in any sports shops .. Plastic skates are a dud and a big NO-NO 🙂

Attaching the pic of jonex .. These are size-adjustable as well

2. You would need bend your knees and skate ..

3. You need to learn to fall first i.e fall on your bums 😆

4. You would need to learn balancing on 1 leg at time first and then both the legs ..

5. You would need to learn to brake 🙂

6. You are ready to go 🙂

Skating is/was always fun .. We used to cover places on skates .. Hockey is any day fun to watch or play 🙂

Thank you Amruta Ramsubramaniam for asking me to post 🙂 nostalgic .. 🙂 Much love ❤️

BFF

We generally drift off to sleep with me patting the little one to sleep by putting her on me and Aadya sleeping next to me. It is generally a story and when Aadya decides to sleep, she asks for Krishna’s story 🙂 Well who doesn’t love little Krishna story or rather stories 😀

So we were going through these story telling sessions and the little one doesn’t seem to sleep .. Fidgeting, whining, scolding 😉 (Both my girls dont cry 😀 everytime .. They mostly make these peculiar cries when they are discomfortable .. And they sound exactly like giving me a good scold :P)

I continue patting her .. and not stopping my story for I dint want to stop aiding Aadya from falling sleep ..

Suddenly .. Aadya tells me “Amma Chelli padukundipoyinattundi” (Amma I think lil sister slept off) and I checked, YES she lept 🙂 Phew! That relief! 🙂

Then I suddenly realized .. Aadya is on my team to put her little sister to sleep. 😀 Oh well!! She was always trying to pat the little one to sleep or join me in making the soothing sounds or sometimes even with the lullabies as well ..

It was only when she said the above words I realized that she truly wanted to help and was not playing 😀 She was damn serious just like about the task on hand of putting her sister to sleep .. just like Mom 😀

When Aadya was even smaller, I never had help putting her to sleep .. and sleep was the only complaint I had about A ..

But now .. I have help 🙂 I have a friend who was always ready to reach out to me :)It’s then I realized I had a new BFF in town 8) who would always be with me .. 🙂

Though it amazed me how Miss A grew up so fast .. it doesn’t surprise me .. as she always had been a thoughtful, considerate human 🙂

I love her soul to pieces .. and forever grateful to have her!!

Matching colors – a rainbow wheel

Well,  well after this colourful popsicle sticks, lil A definitely took to learning colours and now she can name almost 10 colours 🙂 I really did not have time for more activities, but that did not deter her enthusiasm 🙂

She loved mom colouring and she took to learning the names (of the colours) of those colour pencils.
And then she simply got bored with all her toys since a week .. Every single toy I bring out, She tells me “Amma idhi vaddhu amma, inkoti kaaavaali ammmmaa” (not this, another one please) and these days she is diligently packing up and giving away to me as well. So much for trying to set up discipline and responsibility. (She is doing this only when she is not happy with the toys u see 😛 not everytime 😉 )

All the toys i stocked here at Vizag are exhausted and she wanted new ones. So I decided to do a couple of DIY activities for her today…

She went out to beach with my promise that a new game would await her by the time she returns ..
I loved the look on her face with my mention of new game .. Absolute ecstasy.. but what amused me was the look on the father, my hubster .. he seemed utterly delighted as well 😀

Coming to activity #1, I had some coloured wooden pegs lying around and the amazon hauls have left me with lot of cardboard 😉

So I decided a simple rainbow wheel with crayons and those wooden pegs for her to match ..

I still have to see how good she can handle those pegs, but definitely a good one to start.

rainbow wheel 1

And then here you go the final finished piece of rainbow wheel.

And then this is not the end of the story. Do you want a dash of expectation vs reality mishap? Here you go 😉 what Aadya decided to do with the rainbow wheel?
Oh spin it like a wheel anf that too .. like a boss!!!! 😎😅

2 piece puzzles

I wanted puzzles for little A since long but as soon as she turned 2 I just had to get them ..

See the haul for both of us 😉

But A was clearly irritated seeing she couldn’t solve them ..

Then I realized she needed something simple to start with to get her interested in puzzles .. I browsed over toddler puzzles and saw that clearly I was over enthusiastic about the whole thing. She definitely had more time for these 3,4,5 piece puzzles!!

Then i came up with these simple DIY puzzles.
All i needed was a black sketch, crayons, cardboard(online shopping comes handy here) and a white paper 🙂 and then of course a toddler who dint mind clumsy work!! I really love her for that !!

And viola to start with 3 basic drawings and my 2 piece puzzles for A are ready !😎

That look of absolute delight from A is priceless.. Any day!! 🙂
